Canberra Youth Orchestra

Orchestra playing on large stage

Canberra’s Premier Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Join the Canberra Youth Orchestra (CYO) and develop your orchestral skills through the exploration of challenging repertoire. Musicians in the CYO perform regularly in an annual program of innovative public concerts and have the opportunity to be conducted and mentored by some of the regions most accomplished professionals.

The CYO invites instrumentalists aged approximately 14-25 years with an approximate equivalent AMEB level of Grade 6, to audition. Applications for CYO are open year-round and we encourage you to become part of our vibrant community.

Please note:
- To ensure the best possible experience, participants are expected to complement their involvement with additional individual instrumental tuition.
- Entry into Canberra Youth Orchestra is by Placement. Placements are available throughout the year after consultation.

At Music for Canberra, we firmly believe in the transformative power of performance, instilling confidence in musicians and encouraging them to share their love for music. Members of McCusker Strings actively participate in String Stream concerts and community events, where they have the opportunity to showcase their progress.
